I loved your memo, btw...

''It's not a memo, it's a mission statement.''

Okay, I'm going to blog this before it's not fresh in my memory.

"Lilya 4-Ever" is one fucked up movie that is fucking good. That's the only way I can describe it. I knew what I was getting into when I went to go see it, but it's kind of like... inflicting pain on yourself. Even though you know it's bad for you, you can't stop from seeing it. It's S&M for goodness sakes. No one in the right mind would want to go see something like "Lilya."

But it's haunting. And it's unforgettable. And there were many times I smiled with Lilya. Felt her pain. And this may be the closest film to move me toward tears. I couldn't stop watching it (even though a couple people couldn't stand it and walked out) and I covered my eyes, but I still peered through the cracks of my fingers. I am still haunted by Lilya and all the shit it says about life.

There is a moral in there about life and death.. about living and choosing to die. And about how sometimes, it's hard to find the will to live. The movie is so good. It's not for everybody.

The actress who plays Lilya reminds me of the actress in "Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl." It's heartbreaking to watch innocence lost. You can't watch that nor can you pay for it. But "Lilya 4-Ever" is a haunting film that will live you dazed. I can't describe it anymore. I'm happy that I paid to go see this bizarre, weird, crazy, sad, whatever whatever movie.

The audience wasn't very big (far from it!) because I doubt many people would like to put themselves through a movie like "Lilya." It's up to you to see this art about... ____. Lilya will steal your heart and have you near tears.

FOUR STARS
